1986 Ford Capri

This Capri is known to some as the ‘ol’ Black Stallion’, ‘the black eyed bruiser’, ‘Thunderguts’ and to some as ‘triggers broom’! I’ve owned it for many years and until recently it had been my daily driver. It was a rough car when I first took ownership of it and most of it has now either been upgraded or replaced. I was on a strict budget with both money and time as I couldn’t have it off the road for long periods so it was worked on in spare time. It was kept ‘ratty’ as it was a daily and occasionally a magnet to stone chips and car park dings from careless drivers. The shell was in a real state when I got it so it’s since been rubbed down and rattle canned in Hammerite to protect it until budget allowed for a full recondition. The running gear, interior and engine are in great order! The MPG has been brought down considerably, it never overheats, the handling is superb and it’s proven to be reliable even on the most bitter mornings. Along with those practical performance and economy mods it can really move! It’s not the prettiest Capri out there but it’s got a distinctive ‘street tough’ presence which any classic daily driven road warrior should wear proudly! It’s hardly a show winner but it sure is a head turner and every time I drive it I’m awarded with compliments, thumbs up, smiles and stories from people who once owned a Capri. It’s always nice when something you’ve created for your own fun gives some pleasure to others. It’s had many incarnations over the years but a full body restoration is on the cards next.
